Jaycie wears a thrifted dress from Thriftings Anu and a Handmade Basket from Dominica’s Kalinago Territory
I’ve been sitting on this photo set for five years. We drove ‘Round South’ in the pouring rain to transport ourselves into a tropical rainforest, came up with three separate shoots, and I sat on the photos for five years.
Truth be told, I was tapped by a collective in London to curate some photos for a creative project, and my mind was running rampant with different ideas, places, and people I wanted to photograph. Did these photos end up in the final submission? No. They were beautiful nonetheless, and I only shared five or six of them on Instagram.
I recently resolved that I would clear out my archives and make use of the blog that I pay monthly for to share the work I’ve been hoarding. Maybe I just want to see if releasing this work into the atmosphere would encourage me to pick up my camera with intention once again.
Round South with Jaycie takes you through three shoots across two locations in Antigua’s Green Corridor. My stunning muse, Jaycie, was a great study, and the photos were GLORIOUS.
Camera Details
All three shoots were captured on my Canon EOS Rebel T3i using my Tamron 100mm lens, aperture f2.8. The ISO and shutter speed varied per shot, but that’s the kit I had for the day.
Fig Tree Drive
While driving to Morris Bay (the second location, which was initially to be the first spot), I spotted a gut in the corner of my eye and pulled over. I told Jaycie this was where we would make magic.
My favourite from this set
Morris Bay
We jumped back in our cars, left Fig Tree Drive and pulled up at Morris Bay. I toyed with the idea of taking photos among the ruins of the old hotel, but then Jaycie came out of her car in a leather black swimsuit top and a skirt with a leaf print. The leaf print skirt meant that I was going to snap her photos among the palm trees. It was incredibly idyllic.
Just how perfect is this leafy print!
Ding Ding Ding! My Favourite
Played around with some grain in this shot and it paid off
On The Rocks
We squeezed in another outfit change at Morris Bay and walked toward the rocks at the end of the beach to get a change of scenery. Jaycie shed the skirt, revealing a full faux leather bikini set that contrasted perfectly against the rocks.
The way the sun hit her was EVERYTHING
I enjoy a grainy B&W moment and this was incredibly edgy
My Favourite from this batch
Playing around with a bit of warmth in the White Balance
Decided to get some Sea in the mix
Played around with some colour by isolating and reducing the luminance and saturation of the blues and even more grain in Lightroom
My absolute favourite shot.
